Forest School

Since 2011 we have run a FOREST SCHOOL, held at Glapthorn Cow Pastures (near Glapthorn, Oundle) which has been a great success. The Forest School is an innovative, educational approach to encourage and inspire children through positive outdoor experiences. Children are taken to the woodland on Thursday mornings and they learn through play about the natural environment and how to solve problems and work together, manage risks and explore for themselves. The skills learned at Forest School enable children to gain an effective foundation that raises academic achievement. Research has shown that outdoor play has a substantial positive impact upon the development of children making them:

More socially confident
Better able to concentrate
Better co-ordinated
More motivated
Improved self esteem

The children participate in a number of activities such as:

Mini-beast hunting, bird nest building, teddy bear hunts, mud painting, shelter building, animal tracking, and woodland art and sculpture. All the skills learnt at Forest School are supported by the Early Years Foundation Stage educational framework and are looked upon favourably by Ofsted.

Tansor playgroup forest school is hosted by the Wildlife Trust at Glapthorn Cow Pasture Nature Reserve.
